#OspolyDecides2026: OGM Faces Fresh Petition Over Alleged Phone Transactions, Police Matter Ahead of Saturday Poll

A fresh petition has been submitted to authorities at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, calling for the investigation and character verification of Students’ Union Government (SUG) presidential aspirant, Ogunmodede Oluwatobiloba Olanrewaju, popularly known as OGM, ahead of Saturday’s election.

The petition, dated September 17, 2026, was addressed to the Dean of Students’ Affairs, the SUG Electoral Committee and the Chief Security Officer of the Polytechnic by a group identifying itself as “Concerned and Conscious Students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.”

The petitioners alleged that some students who reportedly made financial commitments to OGM for the purchase of mobile phones were either not supplied with the phones, received faulty devices or had not received refunds.

They also raised concerns over what they described as an alleged pending matter involving OGM and the Nigeria Police Force, asking the relevant authorities to establish the facts before the election.

The petition comes barely two days before the Polytechnic’s 2026 SUG election, scheduled for Saturday, September 19, with OGM among the presidential contenders.

What the petitioners are alleging

According to the petition, “multiple complaints” had emerged from students across different departments concerning alleged phone transactions involving the presidential aspirant.

The petitioners claimed that some students allegedly paid or made financial commitments for phones but were either not supplied with the devices, supplied with faulty phones without satisfactory resolution, or had not received refunds.

The group further alleged that information had reached them concerning a pending police matter involving OGM.

However, the petitioners acknowledged that the allegations had not been established as proof of wrongdoing, stating that they were not a court and that the principle of fair hearing should be respected.

They argued that because the SUG president would be entrusted with the union’s finances and properties, questions surrounding the character and integrity of any presidential aspirant should be addressed before the election.

What the petition is asking for

Among other requests, the petitioners asked the SUG Electoral Committee and the Dean of Students’ Affairs to invite OGM to respond to the allegations before the election.

They also requested that he provide evidence of settlement with any students who may have outstanding complaints relating to the alleged phone transactions.

On the alleged police matter, the group asked for evidence of police clearance concerning the case.

The petitioners further requested that OGM be disqualified if, according to them, he failed to provide satisfactory clarification or documentation.

The group stressed that its action was not intended to support another aspirant, describing itself as being “for a credible SUG.”


Election draws closer

The development comes as campaigning for the OSPOLY SUG presidency enters its final hours.

OGM, a Microbiology student and former Students’ Union Association chairman for the 2023/2024 period, is facing Comr. Oyediran Abdullateef Olawale, popularly known as MUSLAT, in the presidential contest. OGM’s campaign profile has highlighted his previous student leadership experience, advocacy and leadership values, while MUSLAT’s campaign has centred on a six-point agenda.

With voting scheduled for Saturday, the petition adds a new issue for students and electoral authorities to consider alongside the candidates’ manifestos, campaign promises and previous records.

The allegations contained in the petition have not been independently verified by The Creativity Site, and the petition itself does not constitute a finding of guilt.

OGM has not, in the material available for this report, been quoted responding to the allegations. Any response or clarification from OGM, the Electoral Committee, Students’ Affairs Division or the Police will be considered for publication.

As OSPOLY students prepare to vote, attention will now be on whether the relevant authorities will investigate the allegations and whether OGM will publicly respond to the issues raised in the petition before Saturday’s poll.
