Riots and tension in Osun State as controversial LG election holds.

      By Victor Olubiye   Voting commenced in the Osun State local government election on Saturday morning as scheduled despite prior controversy.     The exercise commenced in some local governments as early as 8am, including Ede North Local Government Area where Governor Ademola Adeleke voted.   The governor after casting his vote, described the exercise as peaceful, calling on the people of the state to come out and vote peacefully.     Voters were seen casting their votes in some of the polling units, as the exercise moved on seamlessly.    The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi and the Nigeria Police Force had called for the to suspension of the exercise.    While the AGF hinged his call on a controversial Court of Appeal judgement which allegedly reinstated the earlier sacked local government chairmen and councillors, the police cited security threat.   According to the justice minister, the Cour...

Osun Court orders OSIEC to conduct Local Government Elections as scheduled.

   By Victor Olubiye    Osun court orders OSIEC to conduct local government elections today, declaring all 30 LG seats vacant after nullifying the 2022 polls.    Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo on Friday ordered the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to conduct the local government election scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.   This was as Governor Ademola Adeleke on Friday, insisted that the local government election scheduled for Saturday will be held unfailingly under the supervision of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC). The Governor made the assertion while receiving a delegation of civil society coalition who are in the state to monitor the local government elections. "How my Dad and mum killed each other" 13-year old boy narrates.

 By Victor Olubiye    One of the children of the couple who killed each other on Tuesday at the Ita Eku area of Igirigiri, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has recounted how his parents engaged in a deadly machete fight that led to their deaths.     The couple’s lifeless bodies were discovered in a pool of blood on Tuesday at their residence where they lived with their four children.    According to reports, the deceased wife usually accused her husband, identified as Caleb, who was said to be a policeman, of infidelity.    Sources said the couple killed each other during a fight as deep machete wounds were visible on their bodies.    However, in a viral video shared on Instagram by Daodu Sammy Gbenga on Thursday, a boy said to be one of the couple’s children, revealed that there was no noticeable dispute between his parents on the night of the tragic incident.    Aged about 13 years, the boy, seen in the video wearing white u...
