As many schools resume for the new academic session across Nigeria, The Creativity Site’s Lead Reporter, Victor Olubiye, visited Excellence International Schools at Koboro, along Onigbedu Road, Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, to hear from students and the school management on their expectations for the new session.
For the students, the beginning of a new session came with different goals, from improving their academic performance to developing their vocabulary and making better choices.
Edun Okiki, an SS1 Art student, said she plans to become a better student by focusing more on her studies, remaining determined and choosing good friends.
“I have a plan to be a better student by focusing on my studies and having determination and choose good friends,” Okiki said.
For Awe David, an SS1 Science student, students need to put more effort into their studies while maintaining other important values.
“They should burn their midnight candles; read extensively, they should read their Bible/Quran, they should have three things in their life: Prayer, hardworking and determination,” he said.
Another SS1 Art student, Salawu Abraham, said he wants to improve his vocabulary development during the new session.
Speaking on what the school expects from students, the Proprietress of Excellence International Schools, Mrs Dupe Awe, said she wants the students to perform better than they did in the previous session.
“They should be good, better than last session/term,” she said.
Awe urged the students to take their studies seriously, listen to their teachers, remain attentive and read extensively.
“They should be serious and get ready to listen to their Teachers, they should be attentive, they should read extensively,” she said.
She also called on parents to support their children by encouraging them to read when they return home from school.
According to her, there is no shortcut to academic success if students do not study their books.
“There’s no magic in Education, if students doesn't read their book, it's not possible for them to be good,” she said.
The proprietress also urged parents to pay their children's school fees and avoid the habit of owing fees.
