#OspolyDecides2026: Student Leaders Petition ISEC, Demand Restoration of September 25 SRC Election Date

Concerned student leaders at the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree (OSPOLY), have petitioned the Independent Students Electoral Commission (ISEC), demanding the restoration of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) election date earlier scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2026.

The petition, dated September 10, 2026, was signed by Oladeji Israel Victor(Issy), identified as Director of Strategic Engagement in the Office of the NANS Secretary General, alongside other concerned student leaders.

According to the petition, ISEC subsequently moved the SRC election forward to Monday, September 14, a change the petitioners said brought the election 11 days earlier than the date previously communicated to students.

The student leaders described the alteration as a significant change to the electoral timetable, raising concerns over transparency, consultation, fairness and the absence of what they described as a clearly communicated justification.

They argued that aspirants had organised their campaigns, mobilisation, meetings and other electoral activities around the original September 25 date.

“Bringing the election forward to 14th September significantly reduces the preparation period and may place some aspirants at an unfair disadvantage,” the petition stated.

The petitioners also called on ISEC to publicly explain the reason, authority and procedural basis for altering the election date.

The student leaders are demanding that ISEC restore the SRC election to Friday, September 25, 2026, as contained in the original electoral timetable referenced in the petition.

They also want the electoral commission to disclose the constitutional or electoral provision under which it derives the authority to alter an officially communicated election timetable.

The petitioners further demanded that future major changes to the electoral timetable involve proper consultation with aspirants, student leaders, class governors and other relevant stakeholders.

They urged ISEC to reaffirm its independence and impartiality while ensuring that the electoral process remains free, fair, transparent and constitutionally compliant.

According to the petition, an unexplained alteration to an officially communicated election timetable could create perceptions of administrative irregularity or unequal treatment among participating aspirants.

The petitioners said their action was aimed at protecting the integrity, fairness and credibility of the Students’ Union electoral process.

“We reaffirm our commitment to a peaceful, credible, free, fair, and transparent SRC electoral process,” they stated.

They, however, maintained that bringing the election forward by 11 days could undermine confidence in the process if the reasons and procedural basis for the change are not properly explained.

The petition was copied to the Chairman of the Governing Council, the Rector, OSPOLY Alumni President, Dean of Student Affairs, Registrar, Faculty Deans and Heads of Departments.

The Creativity Site understands that attention is now focused on whether the September 14 election date will stand and what explanation, if any, ISEC will provide for the alteration.

ISEC’s response to the petition and its stated reason for changing the election date were not contained in the document made available to The Creativity Site as of the time of filing this report.
