#OspolyDecides2026: ISEC Opens Campaign Season, Threatens Disqualification for Rule Violations

Campaign activities for the 2026/27 Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have officially resumed following the lifting of the ban by the institution's Independent Student Electoral Commission (ISEC).

ISEC announced the development in a memorandum dated September 2, 2026, addressed to all aspirants and signed by its Chairman, Adeniyi Adekunle Rapheal, and General Secretary, Shittu Faruq.

The announcement clears the way for aspirants to begin open campaign activities as the student election moves into another stage.

The commission, however, has attached conditions to the resumption.

In the memorandum, ISEC encouraged aspirants to use social media, flyers, banners and other forms of awareness as part of their campaigns.

It also warned against political activities that could interfere with academic activities or threaten peace on campus.

Rallies, unauthorised gatherings and activities capable of disturbing the academic atmosphere or triggering fights and riots were listed among activities that would not be permitted.

The commission further warned that aspirants who violate the stated rules and regulations could be sanctioned, with automatic disqualification listed as a possible consequence.

ISEC urged the contestants to work towards preserving what it described as the harmony and focus of the campus.

The development comes as interest grows around some of the contestants preparing to engage the student electorate.

Muslat, OGM, Value, Lizzy, BGAA, Omor and Amk are among those listed for exclusive interviews being organised by The Creativity Site.

The publication is expected to release the interviews soon, providing students with an opportunity to hear directly from the contestants.

With the campaign ban now lifted, the focus will shift to how the aspirants use the available platforms to communicate with students while staying within the electoral commission's rules.

For the contestants, the campaign period has begun. But ISEC has made compliance a condition of participation.

It became a test of political structures, alliances, incumbency, grassroots mobilisation, digital influence and, ultimately, the choices of voters. The outcome of the election offers several lessons that Nigeria’s political actors may need to consider as the country moves towards the 2027 general elections.
