Ogunmodede Oluwatobiloba Olanrewaju, popularly known as O.G.M, has told students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, to hold him accountable to a target of resolving at least 500 student cases if elected President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG).

In an exclusive interview with The Creativity Site, the HND I Microbiology student and SUG presidential aspirant said his proposed administration would prioritise student welfare, effective communication and accountability.

O.G.M identified poor communication and lack of student welfare as major challenges facing students, particularly delays in receiving information on school fees deadlines, examination updates and result publication.

He said he would establish a functional SUG Helpdesk and Communication Hub as one of his first priorities if entrusted with the students’ mandate.

The proposed helpdesk, he explained, could operate through a physical office or online platforms such as WhatsApp, allowing students to report issues, receive updates and get feedback within 48 hours.

For his first 100 days in office, O.G.M said he would focus on academic support and improving communication with students.

He promised to partner with well-meaning individuals to organise free tutorial classes, while also working with course representatives and lecturers on the treatment of past questions and study materials.

He said his administration would also ensure that students’ concerns are heard and addressed.

On accountability, the aspirant promised to publish monthly reports on SUG activities, including its finances and programmes.

“Under me, it will be action first,” O.G.M said, adding that students should expect a president who would be present in hostels, classrooms and at school events, rather than only during campaign periods.

He also proposed the establishment of a Students’ Rights Committee made up of senior students to assist students facing what he described as unfair treatment.

According to him, cases handled by the committee would be documented so that students could track the issues and actions taken.

Looking beyond his first 100 days, O.G.M said he wanted his administration to be remembered for making SUG “visible and useful again” and rebuilding trust between students and their union government.

He specifically set a target of having the proposed SUG Helpdesk resolve at least 500 student cases within one session.

“If at the end of my tenure that desk is not working and students are still suffering in silence, then I failed. And you should call me out for it,” he said.
