Oladapo Abosede Abigeal, an HND 1 Accountancy student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has promised to push for greater transparency in the management of SUG finances if elected as Auditor, with monthly financial reports among her proposed measures.

Abigeal, popularly known as Abby, made the pledge in an exclusive interview with The Creativity Site during its #MeetTheContestants Election Interview Series ahead of the OSPOLY SUG election.

The SUG Auditor aspirant identified lack of transparency and poor communication as two major problems facing students, saying her proposed approach would focus on making union activities and finances more open to the student body.

She said monthly financial reports would enable students to know how SUG funds are being spent.

Beyond financial reporting, Abby said she would work with the SUG Treasurer and Financial Secretary to establish a transparent accounting system and ensure proper financial records are kept and made accessible.

As part of her proposed first 100 days in office, she also plans to establish a Student Welfare Desk to assist students dealing with issues such as school fees and results.

According to her, the desk would provide a structured channel for students to raise their concerns and receive follow-up.

Abby also listed improved communication among her priorities, proposing official SUG WhatsApp channels for departments.

She said she would begin by collecting the contacts of class representatives within her first two weeks to help create an effective communication structure between students and the union.

On what she intends to do differently, Abby said her focus would be on accountability and accessibility, promising to operate an open-door policy.

“I will operate an open-door policy, where students can approach the SUG leadership with their concerns,” she said.

She added that students should expect a union that is more accessible, transparent and accountable under her leadership.

Abby also said she would attach deadlines to her promises and report back to students on progress made.

On academics, she proposed working with the SUG Academic Director to organise free tutorials to support students.

For welfare and other student concerns, she said the proposed Welfare Desk would provide a structured means of receiving and following up on complaints.

At the end of her tenure, Abby said she wants to be remembered for restoring trust in SUG through transparency.

She specifically identified the publication of quarterly financial reports as a key commitment, saying students should hold her accountable if she fails to deliver on it.
