Nollywood Mourns as Actress Atinuke Kareem Dies After Breast Cancer Battle

The Yoruba movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Nollywood actress, Atinuke Remilekun Kareem, popularly known as Atinuke Kareem, after a prolonged battle with breast cancer.
Kareem reportedly died on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, about four months after she appealed to the public for financial support to help offset the cost of her medical treatment.
The actress’ death was announced by the President of the Ogun State chapter of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Owolabi Ajasa, in a post shared on Instagram.
Ajasa, while mourning the actress, appreciated individuals who stood by Kareem during her illness through financial contributions, prayers, encouragement and other forms of support.
He said the collective efforts of colleagues, friends and members of the public could not ultimately prevent the actress’ death.
According to him, the support extended to Kareem and her family during the difficult period would remain appreciated.
Ajasa said the association and Kareem’s loved ones had no choice but to accept the development and submit to God’s will.
He prayed for strength for the actress’ family, colleagues and loved ones as they come to terms with the loss, while also asking God to grant her eternal rest.
“Rest in peace, Atinuke Remilekun Kareem,” Ajasa concluded.
Kareem’s death has since sparked mourning among colleagues, friends, fans and other members of the Yoruba entertainment industry, with tributes expected to continue following the news of her passing.
