#OspolyDecides2026: AMK Sets 30-Day Financial Records Plan, Promises Quarterly SUG Reports

According to him, his immediate priority as Treasurer will be to establish a proper financial documentation system in which every income and expenditure is recorded and backed by relevant receipts and approvals.
He also said he would encourage the use of digital record-keeping alongside physical documentation, proper budgeting before spending and regular reconciliation of financial records.
“My principle is simple: every naira must have a record, a purpose and accountability,” AMK said.
On financial transparency, the newly elected Treasurer said students should have access to information on how their resources are managed, while noting that such disclosure would remain subject to relevant rules and confidentiality requirements.
He said he would advocate for quarterly financial reports detailing the major income and expenditures of the Students’ Union.
“The goal is for students to understand where the money comes from and where it goes,” he said.
AMK also addressed how he intends to balance the union’s resources among student welfare, administrative responsibilities and programmes.
He said spending would be guided by a realistic budget and clear priorities, with student welfare and impactful programmes receiving proper attention while unnecessary administrative expenses would be controlled.
“We must spend according to what is available, not according to pressure. Every major expenditure should be properly planned, justified and documented,” he said.
The Treasurer also spoke on maintaining his independence as a member of Team Revolution, the platform under which he contested the election.
AMK said his membership of the group would not affect his responsibilities as Treasurer, stressing that he now represents all OSPOLITES.
“Being part of Team Revolution does not mean I will compromise my responsibility as Treasurer. I am now a representative of all OSPOLITES, not just my team,” he said.
He added that while he would work with the administration, financial decisions under his watch would be guided by proper procedures, the rules of the Union, transparency and the interests of students.
Looking ahead to the end of his tenure, AMK said students should be able to see organised financial records, proper budgeting, consistent documentation, regular financial reporting and a transparent financial handover to the next administration.
“I want to leave behind a system, not just promises. My success should be measured by the level of financial accountability I establish,” he said.
AMK said the changes would begin from the start of his tenure, with the first 30 days focused on organising financial records and establishing the required documentation structure.
He added that within 60 to 90 days, students should begin to see a more structured approach to budgeting, documentation and financial reporting.
However, he stressed that accountability would not be limited to the first 90 days.
“But accountability will not be a 90-day project—it will continue throughout my tenure,” he said.
Explaining his motivation for seeking the position, AMK said he believes students deserve responsible management of their resources.
“Now that they have given me the mandate, I intend to make that responsibility measurable,” he said.
He added: “I will not just manage the Union’s finances; I will help strengthen a system where every naira has a record, every expenditure has a purpose, and every student can demand accountability.”
