OSPOLY Rejects Candlelight Procession for Late ‘Emir Ajagungbade’ on Campus

The Management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has rejected a planned prayer session and candlelight procession in honour of late Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, within the institution’s premises.


Oyeyemi died on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Ile-Ife.


The planned programme, organised by a group of his friends, was scheduled to hold at the Pavilion of the Polytechnic on Sunday, September 20.


In a statement signed by the Polytechnic’s Registrar, Abiodun Oyedele Oloyede, the management said it was not favourably disposed to the proposed candlelight procession taking place on campus.

The management, while commiserating with the deceased’s family, friends and associates, said the decision was based on the prevailing security situation in the state.


“The prevailing security situation in the State does not give room for such activity to take place in the campus, following the just concluded peaceful gubernatorial and Student Union elections,” the statement said.


Management therefore urged the organisers to consider alternative venues for the programme within the state.


The statement was issued on Sunday, September 20, as the proposed programme was scheduled to take place.
