Kane's triumph brought an end to England's 25-year wait for another winner of the men's award, following Owen's success in 2001.
The Bayern Munich forward's performances for club and country during the season helped establish him among the leading contenders for football's most prestigious individual honour.
His success in the men's goalscoring category also made him one of the night's multiple-award recipients.
Putellas secures third women's honour
Putellas added another major individual award to her career after winning the Women's Ballon d'Or for the third time.
The Spanish midfielder previously claimed the honour in 2021 and 2022, establishing herself among the most successful recipients since the women's award was introduced in 2018.
Her latest victory was one of the key outcomes of the ceremony, which recognised achievements across the women's game.
Barcelona youngsters earn recognition
Barcelona's Yamal won the men's Kopa Trophy, which recognises the best young player, while teammate Vicky López received the corresponding women's young player award.
The results added to Barcelona's presence among the night's winners, with the club also receiving the Women's Club of the Year award.
Paris Saint-Germain took home the men's club honour, recognising the French side's achievements during the season.
Saka receives Sócrates Award
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka received the Sócrates Award, which recognises footballers' humanitarian work and contributions to social causes.
