More insights have emerged from the recently held Family Ties 2026 (Ota Axis) programme organized by Lions International, District 404B3 Nigeria, as organisers and participants shared deeper reflections on the significance and impact of the initiative.

The event, themed “Family First, Service Always,” brought together Lions, Leos, their families, and members of the public in a unique gathering aimed at strengthening bonds beyond service.

Speaking exclusively, the Family Ties Coordinator for Ota Axis, Ogunnaike Abiodun Ifeoluwa, described the inspiration behind the programme as rooted in unity and collective identity.

What inspired me is basically about collaboration, bonding, and love sharing within the family. It was a beautiful moment where we all came together as one family in Ota Axis… showing love and what Lions International truly represents,” he said.

He noted that the initiative created an avenue for families to interact, connect, and build relationships beyond club meetings.

“Family Ties offers benefits in terms of collaboration and sharing of love. It creates an opportunity for families to familiarize with one another and share common values irrespective of ethnicity or religious differences,” he added.

Highlighting the behind-the-scenes efforts, Ogunnaike revealed that organizing the event came with notable challenges, particularly as it marked a historic first for the axis.

“The major challenges were time and introducing new techniques to do something different. This is the first time Ota Axis is hosting Family Ties independently, so we had to go back to the drawing board,” he explained.

He commended members of the planning committees for their dedication and teamwork in ensuring the success of the programme.

On the way forward, he emphasized that families should build on the lessons learned during the event.

Families, he noted, can apply practical steps such as better understanding of large family structures, improved socialization among children, and deeper awareness of the humanitarian values of Lions International.

Participants at the event also spoke on their personal experiences and takeaways.

One of the attendees, Kafayat Salako, who attended on invitation, highlighted the emotional and social impact of the gathering.

“The key lesson I’m taking home is the value of bringing family members together—especially seeing the happiness on people’s faces, particularly the children,” she said.

Another participant, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ikuremi, described the event as well-organized and memorable.

“It’s nice. The arrangement stood out—they were well organized. I would recommend this event because it brings family members together, at least once in a year. It’s actually memorable,” she noted.

The Family Ties initiative continues to reflect Lions International’s evolving approach to service—one that not only focuses on community impact but also prioritizes the well-being and inclusion of members’ families.
