Explainer: Steps Candidates Can Follow to Get Their 2026 WAEC Certificates Digitally

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that certificates for candidates who sat the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates are now available through its Digital Certificate Platform.

The development means successful candidates can access, download and share their certificates digitally without waiting solely for the physical copies.

WAEC announced the availability of the certificates on Friday through its official social media channel, urging candidates to make use of the digital platform. 

The digital certificate service is part of WAEC's broader move towards electronic access and verification of academic credentials. The Council launched its WAEC DigiCert service across Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone in February 2026. 

Through the platform, candidates can access their original digital certificates, while institutions and other authorised users can confirm the authenticity of certificates.

How to access the 2026 WAEC certificate

Candidates who want to obtain their digital certificates are required to use WAEC's official Digital Certificate Platform.

The process involves visiting the WAEC website and selecting the certificate access option. Candidates will then be required to provide the relevant examination and identification details and complete the verification process.

Once verification is completed, the candidate can view and download the digital certificate. The certificate can also be saved or shared electronically with schools, employers and other institutions requiring proof of academic qualification. 

WAEC's platform provides separate functions for certificate access and certificate confirmation. While candidates can use the former to view, download or share their certificates, institutions and organisations can use the confirmation service to verify credentials. 

The certificate platform is different from the portal used by candidates to check their examination results.

WAEC had earlier announced the release of the 2026 WASSCE School Candidates results, with 1,950,726 candidates sitting for the examination. Of that number, 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. 

The 2026 examination was conducted between April 21 and June 19.

With the digital certificate now available, candidates who have checked their results and need their certificates for further education, employment or other official purposes can access the documents through WAEC's digital platform.

WAEC has also advised users to rely on its official platforms when accessing certificates and providing examination information, rather than unofficial websites.
