Osun APC Urges Members to Stop Blaming Leaders Over Guber Election Loss

 By Victor Olubiye

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned its members against blaming party leaders for the outcome of the August 15 governorship election, saying internal recriminations could further weaken the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The party, in a statement issued on Friday by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, said it had observed what it described as sponsored newspaper articles, video messages and activities by “faceless organisations” accusing some APC leaders of responsibility for the party’s defeat.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of the election. The APC candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), was defeated in the poll.

The APC said it understood the disappointment among members and supporters who worked for the party during the election but were dissatisfied with the declared result.

“We understand the genuine complaint of some of our dedicated members and supporters who worked assiduously for our party during the governorship election but felt disappointed by the declared outcome of the exercise,” the statement said.

The party, however, rejected what it described as a campaign to publicly discredit its leaders, arguing that such actions would do little to address the challenges facing the organisation.

According to the statement, some party leaders had continued to support the APC with financial resources, time and advice, and should not be made scapegoats for the election result.

The party also alleged that some members worked against the APC during the election in favour of Adeleke, describing the alleged conduct as sabotage.

“It is particularly worrisome and nauseating to note that the blame game ploy has been oozing out, by proxy, from the tendencies of those who, information confirmed, glaringly worked against our party in favour of Governor Ademola Adeleke by clandestinely and frivolously engaging in acts of sabotage during the 15th August, 2026 governorship election,” it said.

The APC did not name the individuals or groups it accused of the alleged sabotage in the statement.

It further alleged that those responsible for the party's loss were now attempting to deepen divisions within its ranks.

“Our investigation has proven that it is those entities who worked for the loss of the governorship election that are now scheming to destroy the party at all its level of operations in the state,” the statement added.

The party called on members who genuinely wanted its progress to focus on finding solutions that would strengthen the APC ahead of the forthcoming presidential election rather than engaging in personal attacks.

It also urged members to avoid using anonymous or proxy platforms to attack perceived opponents within the party.

“Hiding in the corner of one's bedroom from where hired writers are employed to throw brickbats at real or imaginary enemies within the same party won't help the present and future plight of the party,” Olabisi said.

The APC commended its members and supporters who campaigned for Oyebamiji, saying their efforts should not be forgotten despite the election outcome.

We pray that the efforts of our members and supporters shall not be in vain and that God shall reward all the stakeholders of our party according to their contributions either positively or negatively in the election,” the statement concluded.
