Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66.

The actor’s death was announced on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an Instagram Live session. Multiple Nigerian media outlets have since reported the development.

Hassan’s death comes days after his family disclosed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for urgent medical assistance.

Earlier in August, his daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, had raised concerns over his deteriorating condition and sought help from medical professionals and facilities capable of providing specialised cancer treatment. At the time, the family clarified that it was seeking medical assistance rather than financial donations.

The development had generated widespread concern among colleagues, fans and other well-wishers, with several people rallying support for the veteran actor.

Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in the Yoruba-language arm of Nigeria’s film industry. Over the years, he built a reputation as an actor, producer and filmmaker, appearing in several Nollywood productions.

His career, which began in the early 1980s, eventually saw him become one of the recognisable faces in Yoruba cinema. He also featured in productions such as Omo Ghetto, Anikulapo and Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre.

The news of his death has triggered reactions across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with colleagues and admirers mourning the loss of a veteran whose career spanned several decades.

Ogogo’s passing also comes shortly after a false death report circulated on social media earlier in August. His daughter, Lima, had at the time dismissed the claim as fake and urged members of the public to stop spreading unverified information.

His death on Sunday, however, has now been confirmed by his daughter, Kira.

Further details surrounding his death and funeral arrangements were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
